In Branford, right off of I-95 at exit 55. 388 East Main Street.
Weekend classes are 1 day only and start at 9am and end around 3:30pm. Weeknight classes are broken up into 2 nights from 6 to 9:30 on the 1st night and 6 to 9pm on the 2nd night. Utah only classes are about 4 hours and do not require live fire.
All students need to pre-register. I limit class sizes so I need to know who is coming in advance. However if you are interested in attending a class at the last minute feel free to call and check for availability.
Go to https://www.firsttimefirearms.com/book-now and choose the date you'd like. Then click on the certification you want.
-The CT class gets you an NRA certificate accepted by CT, NY and many other states for a permit.
-The Utah class gets you certified for a Utah nonresident permit that will allow to carry in 35 states in conjunction with your CT permit.
-Taking the combo class gets you both certificates at a discount.
*You must have a CT permit to carry here. You can NOT carry here with a Utah permit or any other states permit.
Absolutely. If you are going to pay with a card please do it when you register if possible. Otherwise you can choose the pay in class option if you are going to pay with cash.
Please bring your driver’s license or state issued ID. You are welcome to bring snacks or drinks as it is a rather long class. I do have cold drinks on hand as well. You may want to bring a notebook although not required. Wear clothing appropriate for shooting which basically means no low cut shirts or open toed shoes.
I provide everything else needed including firearms, ammunition, targets, eye protection, ear protection, permit applications and certificates.
No. We are in a nice clean, quiet, office environment. No distractions, no noise, I am focused solely on teaching. We shoot at a range 3 miles up the road where I have dedicated, reserved range space. No hanging around a public shop waiting to get on the range. Once you have completed the live fire portion of the class you are done for the day.
All students begin by loading, firing, and unloading a .22 caliber revolver. After that you will fire a .22 caliber semi-automatic. We will work on refining the 5 fundamentals of shooting with this gun. After that you will fire at least two centerfire handguns. Likely a 9mm and a .45 auto. In total you will fire approximately 50 rounds.
That is absolutely not a problem. I focus on training beginner classes. I leave the advanced training to the x-Navy Seals and do what I do best and let them do what they do best. I present the information in a simple, fun way to keep everyone engaged while not over complicating things. If you want to hear stories abut SWAT team tactics then my class isn’t for you. I am all about safety and building the proper skills and foundation to becoming a proficient shooter.
I typically do not as my rates are very competitive already. My CT/Utah Combo class is actually by far the cheapest in the state to my knowledge.
There probably closer locations for many people. However, I get students from all over the state. The combination of my low prices, my experience with training thousands of beginners, an actual classroom with tons of training aids, tons of class guns, video, powerpoint, comprehensive informational packets, free notary service for your application, indoor climate-controlled shooting range, and the opportunity to shoot multiple firearms of various calibers makes it worth the ride. Don’t forget, many classes out there require you to travel first to a classroom and then to a range which may not be all that close, may be public and require a wait, and may be outdoors. Branford may not be all that far after all!
